COURSE OVERVIEW
OCS American History I * Credit: 1
This course is designed to provide the student with basic economic, government, and political knowledge they need to become responsible citizens and consumers. It covers the historical background of the development of the United States, including the Constitution and amendments, and the three branches of government, and major laws that effect citizens. The course also covers state and local government roles and jurisdictions, and issues of personal citizenship.
OCS American History II * Credit: 1
American History Course II will guide students from the late nineteenth century time period through the early 21st century. Students will examine the political, economic, social and cultural development of the United States from the end of the Reconstruction era to present times. The essential standards of American History Course II will trace the change in the ethnic composition of American society; the movement toward equal rights for racial minorities and women; and the role of the United States as a major world power. At the completion of the course, the student must be assessed using the American History II NCFE (North Carolina Final Exam) with appropriate accommodations and modifications.
NEW! American History: Founding Principles of Civics & Economics * Credit:
American History: The Founding Principles, Civics and Economics has been developed as a course that provides a framework for the understanding of:
- American democracy
- Practices of American government as established by the United States Constitution
- Basic concepts of American politics and citizenship
- Concepts in macro and micro economics and personal finance.

This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge necessary to practice safety in all areas of life and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students will also receive instruction in the provision of first aid and accessing medical care. Students will have opportunities to apply skills in the area of healthy living and safety to various situations within the home, community, and workplace.
OCS Biology * Credit: 1
This course covers standards in the areas of structure and functions of living organisms, evolution & genetics, and molecular biology. At the completion of the course, the student must be assessed using the Biology EOC with appropriate accommodations and modifications.
OCS Prep II * Credit: 1
The OCS Prep Education courses are designed to introduce students to the fundamental attitudes, behaviors, and habits needed to obtain and maintain employment in their career choice and make career advancements. Students will be involved in school-based learning activities and on-site job training.
